NEUROLOGIST SALARIES (Medicine + Surgery)

Neurology (Medicine)
New York = $204,000/-
Los Angeles = $197,000/-
Houston = $182,000/-
Seattle = $186,000/-
Lately, Neurology has become another favourite with IMGs with many programs sponsoring H1s / J1s and not being so tough to get in. However, applications are to be submitted via the SFmatch matching program and NOT via ERAS and deadlines are much earlier too.
Neurology (Surgery)
New York = $396,000/-
Los Angeles = $ 382,000/-
Houston = $352,000/-
Seattle = $360,000/-

CARDIOLOGIST SALARIES

Cardiologist (Medicine)

    New York $278,000/-
    Los Angeles $268,000/-
    Houston $247,000/-
    Seattle $252,000/-

Cardiologist (Interventional)

    New York $313,000/-
    Los Angeles $302,000/-
    Houston $279,000/-
    Seattle $285,000/-

Figures mentioned on this site are only base-salaries - benefits and bonuses are separate and often add substantially to the month pay-check !

 RESIDENCY SALARIES

Resident - Bottom of the food chain ;-)

Typical stipends or pays across the USA for a resident from any specialty are:

    1st Year (PGY1): $34,000 - $45,000/-
    2nd Year (PGY2): $37,000 - $47,000/-
    3rd Year (PGY3): $38,000 - $49,000/-

A PEDIATRICIAN

Like Babies ? :-)

    New York $163,000/-
    Houston $145,0o0/-
    Los Angeles $157,000/-
    Seattle $148,000/-

Note for FMGs/IMGs: A majority of programs offering a pediatric residency program only sponsor the J1 visa. Even if you land a H1 residency, it seems that fellowships program are mostly J1-sponsorors (as a pediatrician friend tells me)

FAMILY PHYSICIANS SALARIES

Primary Care Pays too...

    New York = $170,000/-
    Los Angeles = $165,000/-
    Houston = $152,000/-
    Seattle = $155,000/-

Notice the similarity of pay-scales to Internists ? :-)

FP Pros:

    Cool and 'un-hectic' Residency which is easier to get
    9am-5pm kinda cool job unless you take the emergency / Ob-Gyn track
    If you prepared work hard - pays can match IM

FP Cons:

    You get a 'Jack-of-All-Master-of-None' Feeling
    Few Fellowship options - Geriatrics, Sports Medicine, Emergency Medicine, OB-GYN
    Got to stick to the primary care-world

AN INTERNIST

An Internist is what you become after completing your residency in Internal Medicine. So how much would you make if you did not clinch that fellowship after your residency? You still would make enough to make your non-physician neighbour's green with envy...Here's the average yearly internist compensations in a few cities:

    New York: $170,000/-
    Los Angeles: $165,000/-
    Houston: $152,000/-
    Seattle: $155,000/-

This specialty is a general favourite with most International Medical Graduates (IMGs) , since:

1. Many programs offer the much sought H1 work visa
2. Easier to get than other specialties
3. Opens doors to exciting Fellowship opportunities
4. Good pays !

Note: Salaries mentioned here are the 50th Percentile Salaries and may apply to mid-career levels - the lower percentile salaries (for fresh physicians) may actually be lower by 30,000- 40,000 $
